Washington (EFE) .- The president of the United States, Donald Trump, announced Monday that Washington will be the headquarters of the National Soccer League (NFL) in 2027.
“Our capital will host one of our most precious cultural institutions,” Trump said in an event held today in the Oval Office of the White House that was attended by the NFL commissioner, Roger Goddell, Josh Harris, owner of the capital franchise, the Washington Commanders, and the Alcadesa of the US capital, Muriel Bowser.
Trump explained that the event will take place at the Washington National Esplanade, which said “it has the capacity to welcome a million people.”
The NFL draft will arrive for the first time to Washington in 2027
The US president celebrated the news, ensuring that “thousands of fans will travel through the country to attend” the Draft and that this will have a very positive economic impact on the US capital, which did not host a selection of NFL players since 1941.

The draft, which is celebrated every year at the end of April so that the NFL teams choose the newly graduated young players from their universities or willing to make the professional leap, was held for decades in New York until as of 2015 began to organize again in different cities in the United States that have franchises.
This year’s edition was held in Green Bay, in the state of Wisconsin, and the 2026 is scheduled in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
