Emma Chamberlain has returned to the Met Gala for her fifth year in a row.

On Monday, May 5, the 23-year-old influencer stepped out in New York City wearing a black pinstripe suit dress with a halter neckline and daringly low back.

The piece is custom Courrèges by Nicolas Di Felice and features a slit and asymmetrical silhouette, showing off one side of Chamberlain’s waist from the front as well as her entire back. The star also added sheer opera gloves, which showed off her maroon manicure underneath.

Chamberlain finished off the look with silver-framed glasses and silver earrings. Her icy blonde pixie was styled into a spiky, edgy look.

The “Anything Goes” podcast host’s couture look aligned with the event’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” named after the Costume Institute’s spring 2025 exhibition.

Last October, Vogue announced Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Anna Wintour as co-chairs of the 2025 Met Gala, as well as LeBron James as honorary chair. The event, which is held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, is a fundraiser for The Costume Institute and spotlights the museum’s spring 2025 exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”

Curator in Charge Andrew Bolton, shared that the exhibit, which is inspired by guest curator Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identityexplores “the Black dandy as both a concept and an identity signifier.”

The exhibit “presents a cultural and historical examination of Black style from the 18th century to the present through an exploration of the concept of dandyism,” according to a post on the museum’s Instagram.

The Met Gala’s dress code this year is “Tailored for You.” It is a nod to the exhibition’s focus on menswear and suiting. The host committee this year includes Simone Biles and her , Jonathan Owens, Regina King, Spike Lee, Angel Reese, Doechii and Usher.

Chamberlain, who is returning to the gala as Vogue‘s correspondent on the carpet, first appeared at the Met Gala in 2021 as the outlet’s special correspondent and red carpet host. Chamberlain stepped out in style in a Louis Vuitton look, which included an all-gold minidress, strappy gold shoes and gold accessories.

The following year, Chamberlain rocked another Louis Vuitton look, this wearing a custom two-piece skirt set. Reminiscent of the event’s “Gilded Glamour” dress code, her outfit featured a historical-looking, buttery yellow cropped top and a sleek, albeit less antique-looking white skirt.

Chamberlain’s 2022 Met Gala look featured Louis Vuitton with glittering pieces from another French brand, Cartier, adorning her ensemble. Her tiara, a piece from the 1900s, and her other jewelry, including bracelets and earrings, were all sourced from the French jeweler.

The Chamberlain Coffee entrepreneur also made headlines at the Gala that year after an interview with rapper Jack Harlow, 27, went viral for its flirty vibes. In the video, Chamberlain talks with Harlow, who is suave and cool with his responses to Chamberlain’s interview questions.

In 2023, Harlow and Chamberlain reunited again on the Met’s carpet for another playfully flirty interaction that left fans of the two dissecting the interaction in the YouTube video comments.

The coffee guru broke from her Louis Vuitton trend, wearing two separate cropped two-piece Miu Miu skirt sets — one for walking the carpet and another for completing her interviewing duties.

Chamberlain was also spotted at that year’s Met Gala hanging out with pal-turned-partner Kendall Jenner. The two recently launched an espresso martini collab between their respective brands, Chamberlain Coffee and Jenner’s 818 Tequila.

By 2024, the YouTuber went bigger than ever before, wearing a custom brown lace Jean Paul Gaultier dress featuring a strapless corseted bodice, ivy-like lace tendrils wrapped around her arms and a tulle train. She told reporters on the red carpet that her goth look could be described in one word as “decaying.”

“This is sort of a fantasy, enchanted-like theme. It’s fun to do a dark twist on it; the underbelly of nature,” Chamberlain said in her Sketch to Dress video for Voguenodding to the event’s theme of “The Garden of Time.” The dress — which took inspiration in part from a corset look that the French fashion sent down the runway in 2003 — took 640 hours to build.

In March this year, Chamberlain spoke to Byrdie about being called an “It girl” — despite being labeled as one after making an appearance in Charli xcx’s infamous “360” music video in May 2024.

“To me, it’s a little toxic,” she said of the moniker. “I’m not saying I don’t like the concept of an It girl, or the actual It girls, but there is something a little exclusionary about it to me that I don’t like. We’re adults! There being It girls makes the internet feel like high to me.”

“[People will call me] an It girl or this hot girl, then if I wear an outfit that’s very much me in the sense that it’s comfortable and maybe a bit less sexy, then it’s like, ‘Emma turned ugly. She’s no longer an It girl,’ ” she explained.
