On the occasion of the X Anniversary of the delivery of the “Minotauro award” by the Peña Taurina 432, an organization that has become a reference of the bullfighting groups of fans and that not only has a presence in the capital of the country, the tenth edition of its award was held to the most outstanding performances of the 2019-2020 and 2024-2025 seasons, corresponding to the Monumental Plaza de Toros La México.
The above, because the confinement by the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as a suspension of the runs did not make such delivery for several years.
In the opening words of the event, Joaquín Ordoñana, president of Peña 432 stressed that the bullfighting party should be maintained and respected as until now and being a national tradition. “It is our duty to defend cultural heritage, and it is so, being united and organized, as we can strengthen ourselves to unjustified political pressures that seek to restore our freedom and our rights.”
The winners corresponding to the 2019-2020 season were the following:
- Best Subaltern: Ángel Martín González “Lupillo”.
- Best horsemen: Guillermo Hermoso.
- Best Toro: “Tocayo”, from the cattle ranches La Joya and El Salitrillo.
- Best livestock: Pozohondo, by Ramiro Alatorre.
- Better Capote bullfighting: Octavio García “El Payo”.
- Revelation of the season: José Mauricio.
- Better lunge and best work: Antonio Ferrera.
For the winner of the category “Best Toreo de Capote”, Octavio García “El Payo”, this recognition -4º that he has achieved in his career-, represents “a union, a celebration, for all those who live for her and for her, it is time to raise the voice and without a doubt these actions make evident the importance of each task, and this speaks that the party is alive and in motion.”
Jose Mauricio, recognized for being the revelation of the 2019-2020 season, stressed that being awarded by fans such as strain, such as those belonging to Peña 432, always represents an honor, and a responsibility to continue contributing to the party. “All bullfighters put our soul and life in every afternoon. These awards claim and strengthen the party and the fans. It is our history and we have to continue being part of it and Mexico.”
The statuette for the best of the 2024-2025 season was for:
- Best Subaltern: Fernando García son.
- Better Picador: César Morales.
- Better lunge: Diego Silveti.
- Best Toro: “Sorcerer”, from Las Huertas, by Rodrigo Barroso Cañedo.
- Revelation of the season: Matadora Paola San Román.
And who undoubtedly took a great ovation, was the killer Paola San Román, awarded as the revelation of the 2024-25 season. “For me the prize represents a lot of happiness, given the sacrifices, personal challenges, bad and good flavors and mouth, but it is certainly very significant for my career, an incentive that commits me to continue doing better what I am passionate about in life.”
This is how the Mintauro Prize not only recognizes bullfighters, but also subordinates, choppers and banderilleros, allowing them to continue dreaming of leaving a legacy in their work, and in one of the most important traditional festivities in the country.
