Quito, May 5 (EFE) .- A court in Ecuador ratified the eight-month prison sentence against the cause of one of the forest fires that put Quito in check last year, the capital of the country, as reported Monday in a statement the Prosecutor’s Office.
The judges of the province of Justice of Pichincha, province whose capital is Quito, considered that the evidence presented by the prosecutor of the case demonstrated the responsibility of Dylan Alberto A. in the crime, which caused environmental shock and damage in Quito, especially in the mountainous and populous sector of Guápulo.
The defendant’s defense, who requested his acquittal, had appealed the ruling by arguing that the times established by the law for flagrance arrests were not respected.
The prosecutor refuted this allegation, explaining that the event occurred at approximately 4:00 p.m. local time (21:00 GMT) of September 24 and that the defendant was arrested at 12:00 local time (17:00 GMT) of September 25, within 24 hours stipulated by the Ecuadorian Criminal Code.
The Prosecutor’s Office also refuted the convicted lawyer, who sought to doubt the coherence of the testimony of a face -to -face witness who observed how Dylan Alberto A. began the forest fire.
The judge of first instance sentenced the cause of the fire with a reduced penalty for having received the effective (award -winning delation), which is why she received the sentence of eight months in jail that she must comply with. EFE
