Last Wednesday, April 30, at 12:00 pm, was held at the Inca Garcilaso Cultural Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Jr. Ucayali 391, Lima) the presentation of the book Peru-toyia. Beyond the Bicentenniala publication coordinated by César Jordán, José A. Mazzotti and Rafael Sánchez-Cocancha.
The work brings together a series of studies elaborated by specialists who examine various aspects of the historical relationship between Peru and Italy. Among the themes addressed are the participation of Italian citizens in the struggle for the independence of Peru – like the Genoese musician Andrea Bolognesi, signer of the Independence Act and father of the Hero of Arica -, the figure of Giuseppe Garibaldi in Peruvian territory, the legacy of Jorge Chávez in Domodossola, and the representation of Santa Rosa de Lima in the Italian art.
The book also highlights the contribution of migrant communities, both Peruvians in Italy and Italian in Peru, as part of a prolonged and fruitful exchange between both nations.
During the event they intervened as commentators Francesca Denegri, doctor of literature and professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru; Massimiliano Mazzanti, Ambassador of Italy in Peru; and César Jordán, former consul general of Peru in Turin.
