Azegre, The that represents the managers of industrial and hazardous waste in Spain, has participated in the Meeting held in Brussels between the European Federation of Waste Management (FEAD) and Jessika Roswall, Commissioner of Environment of the European Commission. During the meeting, Luis Palomino, Secretary General of Aggre, It has exposed one of the urgent priorities of the sector: the need to act against in waste plants caused by lithium battery management.

Palomino has transferred to the curator the proposal to create a fire prevention and recovery fund for batteries within the framework of the systems of Expanded responsibility of the producer (rap). This measure would allow to finance investments in detection systems, fire prevention, awareness campaigns and compensation for affected facilities. Besides, AGURE has defended the implementation of a deposit and system (SDR) for batteries and devices that incorporate them, and the prohibition of disposable products with unnecessary integrated batteries, such as single -use electronic cigarettes.

The meeting has also served for FEAD will present to Commissioner Roswall his document of recommendations for the future European Law of Circular Economics. The priorities exposed include:

  • Foster the demand for European recycled materials, establishing binding objectives of recycled content and fiscal reductions such as incentives.
  • Create a competitive market of recycled products, taking into structural disadvantages against virgin materials.
  • Adopt Waste condition criteria At European level to facilitate cross -border .
  • Recognize the essential role of Energy valuation For non -recyclable waste.
  • Manage hazardous substances in recycling through Restrictions and technologies of decontamination.

FEAD has also underlined the need to include its sector in the Next industrial dialogue on circularity (Clean Industrial Dialogue on Circularity), as a strategic actor to achieve the objectives of climate neutrality and economic autonomy of the European Union.
