A fatal occurred this (May 8) around 6:30 am in Baie-Mahault, according to the departmental and rescue in Guadeloupe. The assessment reports 5 deaths, five young people in his twenties and one seriously injured, aged 26. All would come from Lamentin. A psychological unit has been put in place and an investigation entrusted to the gendarmerie of Baie-Mahault. The prosecutor takes stock of the first elements.

The intervention is still underway in the fatal accident which occurred this Thursday morning May 8 around 6:30 am in Baie-Mahault. The accident took place between the Carrefour Beausoleil and that of Wonche. Two light vehicles are obviously involved, a frontal shock.

According to the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service of Guadeloupe (SDIS 971) on site, the first assessment reports 5 deaths and a serious injuries. A 20 -year -old young woman and four young people also aged about twenty years are among people killed. They were in the same car.

All would come from the Cité skull in Lamentin. The serious injured man, the driver of the car, is a 26 -year -old man who was transferred by medical transport to the CHU in Guadeloupe.

A very heavy assessment which mourns this start of the weekend of May 8 and which has brought the number of killed on the roads of Guadeloupe to 20 since the start of the year.

20 firefighters including 3 officers were engaged in this intervention. The police are on site and a deviation was put in place, the traffic having been interrupted on the two axes.

Around 9 am the bodies were taken care of by the mortuary ambulances.

The mayor of Baie-Mahault, Hélène Polifonte and the mayor of Lamentin, Jocelyn Sapotille also went to the scene of the accident. A psychological cellence will be set up by the SAMU in consultation with the mayor of Lamentin. Jocelyn Sapotille, very moved, ensures everything to support families.

An investigation was opened to determine the exact circumstances of this fatal accident. It was entrusted to the Baie-Mahault gendarmerie brigade.

According to the prosecutor of Pointe-à-Pitre, The first testimonies and observations made on the road and the vehicles make it possible to determine that the driver of the vehicle which transported the 5 victims would have to the left lane, causing a frontal shock with the 2nd vehicle driven by a single man, evacuated to the CHU and always hospitalized. The examinations of toxicological bodies and analyzes will be carried out in the coming days, specifies the prosecutor.

This new drama highlights, once too much, the appalling assessment of accidents on our Guadeloupe roads. It reminds us of the urgency to mobilize us resolutely against road insecurity. In Guadeloupe, we know what it means to tighten the elbows, to face the tragedy.
