In addition, they announced that a process will begin so that their film laboratories are declared national heritage, for their historical relevance in the Audiovisual industry of Mexico and Latin America.
Claudia Curiel de Icaza, Secretary of Culture of the Government of Mexico, stressed during the same conference that the renewal of Churubusco studies will seek to recover its classical appearance while looking to look to the future.
“Churubusco studies will have a very important renewal and will leave Those studies as in the time of Mexican gold cinemabut updated to today’s technology, to return their vocation as a production space for Mexico and for the world, to support independent and commercial cinema with competitive studies, ”said the official.
This modernization not only implies infrastructure improvements, but also a revaluation of the role that these studies have had in the history of national cinema, while proposing to open its doors to new talents, including independent projects that many times They face technical or access limitations.
For his part, Cristián Calónico stressed that, despite its importance, Churubusco studies have not received significant investments in the last three decades.

“We want to start a process for these laboratories to return because they are iconic, Not only from Mexico, Latin America, not only for continuing with film processes, but also in the search to become a center for the restoration of historical works that make up not only our cinematography, but of the entire Latin American region. ”
The project includes a total investment of 268 million pesos For a period of five years. This investment is intended for:
- The renewal of forums, wineries and postproduction rooms
- The conservation of the film laboratory
- Establish alliances to offer recording, dubbing, special effects and equipment income services
- Create an accessible space for independent productions
Calónico recalled that throughout their 80 years of history, Churubusco studies have been the scene of around 3 thousand films and series, and have had national and international technical talent.
