A Dutch marriage has come to the rescue of emptied Spain. They have bought a town in Burgos, Bárcena de Bureba, for 350,000 euros with the aim of returning life. And it seems that they are on the right track.
Maaike and Tibor, are a couple of the Netherlands who have decided to emigrate to Spain and want to build their future in a Burgos place that has been abandoned for more than forty years. “Maybe we can do something good in Spain to generate some life,” explains Maaike.
When they arrived in Bárcena de Bureba, they found a town without light, without water and without paved streets. The work ahead is a lot, but They have already started by placing doors and windows in the houses that are in better condition. In addition, they want this to be a self -sufficient ecoaldea: they have begun to Plant a forest edible, placed solar panels to recover electricity.
On the other hand, they have established A system to purify river water: “One of the main reasons for choosing this town was the river, it is the most important.” And his work has already brought his first fruits. Another Dutch family has already moved here with them, and a man who bought his house here 40 years ago, is fixing it.
Maaike and Tibor have already taken the people out of abandonment and hope that, in a few years, be a place full of life.
