The trains that connect Madrid with Andalusia (southern Spain), still do not leave this Monday (5.05.2025), hours after a cable robbery was identified in four points in the province of Toledo, bordering the capital of Spain, which affected at least 10,700 travelers and 30 trains.
This robbery, which was described by the Spanish Minister of Transportation, Óscar Puente, as “a serious act of sabotage.”
The technicians continue with the replacement work of the stolen material and the repair of the faults.
ADIF Security Patrols (the railway infrastructure manager in Spain), together with the Civil Guard they were documenting this incidence to file the mandatory complaint, said the company dependent on the Ministry of Transport in Social Networks.
This morning, Adif foresee that they would not leave trains from Madrid before 8:00 (6:00 GMT) or from Seville before 7:00. However, as the company’s sources have confirmed to the Efe Fuentes, at 8:25 this morning, trains from Madrid to Andalusia or from Seville to the capital were still not left.
Renfe asked this morning to the high -speed train travelers (AVE) of Madrid that do not go to the Atocha station, where most of these trains leave, until 8:00 hours (6.00 GMT) because there is delay because of the aforementioned incident, since the repair works continue.
The president of Renfe, Álvaro Fernández de Heredia, said this morning that the train stop this Sunday did not completely cause the robbery of the cable of the high speed Madrid-Sevilla in the province of Toledo, but the “hook” of an Iroo train, another company that operates in Spain since 2022, which dragged the catenary.
Puente said that the Civil Guard investigates the facts, explained that these are four cable robberies at different points in a 10 kilometers radius, and requested citizen collaboration to find those responsible for the robbery, which caused numerous delays and disorders to thousands of travelers who returned a few days off after the May First bridge.
This incident adds to the delays of hours suffered by train travelers last Monday due to the electric blackout that was lived throughout the Iberian Peninsula, and many other breakdowns that are being given in Spanish railway infrastructures.
