After the bad data of the EPA for the first quarter of the year and the increase in the month of March, the month of April has seen the labor impulse of a Holy Week with the full hotels and tourist places that leads the number of unemployment to its lower amount since July 2008, as published by the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy. Unemployment is reduced to 67,420 people, which represents -2.61% compared to the previous year.
Looking at the figures from an annual perspective, at the end of this month of April there are 153,782 people less unemployed, 5.77 % less than in the same month of 2024. It is not the only record of the April data. As announced by minister Yolanda Díaz, there are currently 21,588,639 Social Security affiliates. “There were never so many people working before,” said Díaz. An affiliation that has increased by 487,000 people in this last year. “They said that raising the minimum wage destroyed employment and we have created it,” said the head of the Ministry of Labor.
As expected in a month marked by the holiday and holiday period of Holy Week, it has been the services sector that has pushed this fall in unemployment with a decrease of 49,660 less unemployed people in April. It is followed by construction 3,817 people, agriculture 3,323 people and industry 2,920 people. It is also reduced between the previous employment collective decreases by 7,700 people.
Female unemployment decreases by 38,291 women, a 2.46% drop in relation to the month of March and the total stands at 1,515,487, “its lowest level in 17 years,” said the minister. Another of the main concerns, youth strike, has also descended. The month of April closes with a decrease of 20,095 people in the unemployment of children under 25, 10.17% less than the month of March, multiplying the rhythm of descent from the rest of the age groups by five.
