The Abanca is getting used to ‘agent’ young, national and future talent for its goal in recent years. first was Álvaro Pérez, who is already a reference with Saeid in the first team and last summer they repeated strategy with Marcos García (Oviedo, 2007), a raw diamond that, at 17, already exercised as a third goalkeeper while combining it with the ULE, the youth and the Spanish team directed by Nacho Moyano. Without making excessive noise, the Asturian has earned everyone’s favor within the club for its sense and quality.
“You haven’t debuted with the first team, but you have been training with them from preseason.” What has it meant for you?
“Being the first team is like making a master’s degree, it’s a plus and you learn a lot.” I have Saeid and Álvaro who are two referents, that helps me.
“Are you there?”
“No, I feel illusion and desire to learn.” As most of the template is very young, I didn’t feel different when they arrived, everyone welcomed me very well.
“They say Dani Gordo is a specialist in accelerating growth processes in young players.”
“It’s very demanding, she knows how to get along the sessions very well and, in my case, she cares about me.”
“What convinced you to change Oviedo for León so soon?”
—Vine this club to improve because I know they bet on young people, to add minutes in the lower categories and in the future be the goalkeeper of the first team.
—You have already three calls with youth Hispanics and there is a world Cup around the corner. What is the roof of this team?
“Being champions, that’s the goal.” Hopefully I can enter the final list, but you have to go step by step.
—What are the selections that can take away from that ambitious objective?
“For me the three most are Denmark, Sweden and Norway.”
—You move between the youth of Ademar, the ULE and the first team, what would you say it is the main difference?
—The speed at which it is played and, in my case, when throwing balls into the goal. That shows a lot. In Asobal the ball moves very fast.
—How has happened with other referents of this club such as Jaime Fernández or Gonzalo Pérez, you come from the world of football. Why did you give the leap to handball?
“I started just after the Covid pandemic. I came from playing football, but my father, who loves handball, invited me to try it. Already in 2020-21 I started training with the Oviedo base. They tried to put a side because I was tall, but I was clear that I wanted to be a goalkeeper.
“Where are you in a few years?”
“He doesn’t obsess me, as I said I want to be a goalkeeper of Ademar and play in Asobal, but step by step.” Now I try to train as well as possible. I don’t think where I am going to get.
“Tell me some virtue you have and some defect.”
“I think my great virtue is mentality, I don’t come down when things are not going well for me during a game, which are things that can happen.” Jorge Martínez instilled that and I am proud. And in terms of defects they are too many, I have a lot to improve.
“You went to Cuenca as second goalkeeper, but you didn’t get to play.” How do you imagine that moment?
“I don’t think about it, but I’m prepared for when I arrive.” I live up to date and when the debut is given, it will make me very excited.
—The European squares are getting very expensive, you have almost no margin of error.
“The league is very hot both above and in the lower part.” We have five really difficult games starting at this weekend in Granollers, but I trust this squad.
“I suppose that coming from the world of football, you will be a follower of some team …
—All the family we are from the Royal Society because my father is from Lasarte.
“You continued that it was he who instilled the handball. What does it tell you now that part of the first team of Ademar is already part of?
“It’s happy because she plays handball, I think she has the thorn stuck that he would have wanted and couldn’t.” It also puts a lot of cane with the studies, it reminds me that they should be the first.
“What are you going to study?”
“I would like to do aerospace engineering.”
“Have you adapted well to León?”
“Yes, life here is very comfortable and being in a great residence like that of the assumption helps me a lot.”
“Have you had to give up many things for the dream of handball?”
“Well, like everyone else, but I consider myself a very normal person.”
“And the fact of living alone, are you going well?”
“It helps you a lot to mature, because although I have people here, my family is not in a day -to -day basis.” You become more aware of things, you value everything else. My parents and brothers come to see me when they can.
