San Luis (AP)-Pete Alonso and Brandon Nimmo connected home runs and New York Mets won the Cardinals of San Luis on Friday to avoid what would have been their first string of three losses in the campaign.
The Mets defeated San Luis for the ninth consecutive occasion.
The Venezuelan Francisco Álvarez added three singles and three ranges promoted to support Clay Holmes (4-1), and New York won his first victory over Sonny Gray (3-1), who had been 4-0 against the METS.
Alonso put the Mets forward 4-3 with his eighth home run, a two-run hit in a speed change with a 0-2 account. The ball traveled 417 feet to the stands of the central garden.
Nimmo connected a home run at the beginning of the seventh episode against John King, his seventh homer, and the Mets ended with 17 hits, their second highest total of the season.
-New York swept a series of four games against the cardinals at home last month. The best previous streak of the METS against the cardinals was one of eight games in 1986.
Holmes allowed three races and eight hits in six innings. He was beaten in the right ankle by a rolet of Alec Burleson in the second entrance.
Gray allowed five races – four clean -, nine hits and three bases per ball in a work of four innings and one third, the shortest he has had in the season.
For the Mets, the Puerto Rican Francisco Lindor of 5-1. The Dominicans Juan Soto of 5-2 with a scored, 2-0 Starling Mars. Venezuelans Álvarez, 5-3 with three promoted, Luisangel Acuña 3-1 with a produced.
For the cardinals, Venezuelans Willson Contreras 4-2 with a push, Pedro Pagés of 4-0.
