Riad (AP) – Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez beat William Scull on Sunday by unanimous decision to become the undisputed supermedian weight champion again.
Álvarez, 34, is world champion in four categories and reached the fight with the titles of the AMB, CMB and OMB in the 168 pounds.
He was stripped of the FIB belt last July when he refused to make a mandatory defense against Scull. Álvarez became undisputed champion of the division for the second time when the judges gave him the victory for 115-113, 116-112, 119-109.
The fight against Scull, FIB champion, was not up to expectations. Moments after the decision was declared, the promotion for a proposed fight for September 12 between Álvarez and Terence Crawford began.
Álvarez was fighting outside the United States or Mexico for the first time and had to make many adjustments, including adapting to the time spindle. The boxers entered the ring and the hymns began around 6:20 in the morning time of Riyadh (11:20 on Saturday night in the east of the United States).
The goal was for combat to be star hours in the United States.
The first assaults were slow, with both boxers looking for scope and intensity gradually increased with Scull throwing many more blows but barely connecting some. Álvarez, on the contrary, remained patient and was connecting powerful blows to the body.
Scull continued moving, dodging and moving, frustrating Álvarez, who later said he hated fighting that boxer style.
