Carlos Taberner signed the second victory of his career in an ATP Masters 1000 tournament.

It was several seasons that Carlos Taberner did not appear among the best of ATP Tour, but in these first months of the year the Spanish is again demonstrating the level that in 2022 catapulted it until No. 85 of the PIF ATP Rankings.
After overcoming the previous phase in the internali bnl d’Halia, the Spaniard maintained his good harmony with the Italian beaten land to appear in the second round in Rome. This Wednesday defeated the American Aleksandar Kovacevic 6-3, 1-6, 7-5 in two hours and 16 minutes.
Taberner barely had three experience matches in the ATP Masters 1000 tournaments, with a 1-2 record, and his only victory went back to Indian Wells 2021, where he beat his compatriot Jaume Munar in his debut in a main picture. In Rome he has matched his best brand in a tournament in this category, since in Madrid 2021 he left without winning, arriving from La Qualy.

-Taberner is playing his first ATP Tour tournament of the season. And it is that the 27 -year -old Valencian undertook his adventure from this course since the Top 200 and at the ATP Challenger Tour has been adding enough points to be at the moment in No. 123 of the PIF Live ATP Rankings.
The Spanish conquered the title at the ATP Challenger in Murcia last March, while in Punta del Este (Uruguay) and in Oeiras (Portugal) reached the semifinals.
In Rome, Taberner won a hole in the main team of an ATP Tour Tournament for the first time since last April 2024 played in Bucharest (p. Against Pedro Martínez) and did not celebrate a triumph at this level since in Estoril 2022 he defeated Lloyd Harris.
Now, in the second round the head of series No. 24 Alexei Popyrin will be measured.

For its part, the head of series No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz also knows who will be his first rival in the second round of Rome. In this case, Dusan Lajovic. The Serbian from the previous phase was imposed with authority to Yoshihito Nishioka 7-5, 6-1 in an hour and 20 minutes.
It will be the fifth confrontation recorded by the Lexus ATP Head2head between them, with a 4-0 advantage for Alcaraz to date.
