Pep Guardiola would have been over the moon with the outcome of Man City’s match with Wolves.

The Manchester club were 1-0 winners against Vitor Pereira’s side on night at the Etihad Stadium, which has put City in a very strong position to secure League next with just three to go.

Kevin De Bruyne scored Man City’s only goal and with his career in Manchester set to come to an end this summer, the Belgian’s departure will leave a hole in Guardiola’s team.

Man City hope signing Florian Wirtz can fill it, but there are also several stars already with the Manchester club that will be hoping to take over from the 33-year-old.

The Man City career of Jack Grealish dealt a big blow

Jack Grealish was given a big boost last weekend as the Englishman was handed a start in Man City’s FA Cup semi-final clash with Nottingham Forest, which hinted that the winger had a future in Manchester.

It was reported after the Wembley contest that the camp of Grealish were positive about his Man City future, but the 29-year-old was given a reality check on Friday night.

The former Aston Villa star was an unused sub against Wolves with Manuel Akanji, James McAtee, Nico Gonzalez, Phil Foden, and Rico Lewis chosen by Guardiola ahead of the winger.

Grealish has started in just one of Man City’s last 18 matches, with Friday night being the tenth this period where he was handed no minutes by Guardiola.

So far throughout the campaign, the winger has only contributed three goals and five assists, which is not the level expected of a £100m player.

Grealish is happy at Man City and hopes to remain at the Etihad Stadium beyond the summer. However, interest in the Englishman remains, with his former club Aston Villa keen on bringing him back to Birmingham, while Tottenham and Newcastle have looked before, in addition to AC Milan.

Friday night showed that Grealish has no future at Man City and with the 2026 World Cup happening next summer, the winger has a huge decision to make.

Jack Grealish needs to accept his situation at Man City

Ally McCoist has told Grealish to leave Man City at the end of the season and the pundit is one of many who share this view.

Next season is a crucial one for every player who wants to play at the World Cup and sitting on the bench will have a major effect on the winger’s chances of being selected in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.

Guardiola is set to bring in several stars this summer, which will only decrease Grealish’s opportunities, and many will say that the 29-year-old has had his chance and has not taken it since his move to Manchester in 2021.

Season Games Goals Assits Minutes
24/25 31 3 5 1520
23/24 36 3 3 2114
22/23 50 5 11 3487
21/22 39 6 4 2730

Man City is clearly a club Grealish loves being a part of and fans of the Manchester club would love to see the winger turn his situation around, but Guardiola cannot make his message any clearer.

Dion Dublin stated on Match of the Day that the Englishman was ‘outstanding’ following a performance against the Eagles in April last year, but they have not appeared often enough.

City will not facilitate a loan move for the 29-year-old this summer and with several clubs interested, it is now time for Grealish to pick one.
