On May 4, 2025, the 76th anniversary of the Superga tragedy was fulfilled, one of the worst air accidents suffered by the world of football throughout its history, which claimed the life of 31 people in 1949, among which the club Players, journalists and leaders traveled.
And within the commemoration of the anniversary for the accident, it was made for the victims, Duván Zapata, captain and scorer of the Garnet painting was present.

The event that was held in the Basilica of Superga, attended more than twenty fans of Torino, along with the media and the entire team of the professional team, including Duván Zapata.
In addition, Torino held a commemorative event for the accident in the Monumental Cemetery of Turin, where the relatives of the victims were present.


The Superga accident occurred on May 4, 1949, when the Fiat G.212 plane of the Italian airline Alitalia crashed in the Superga hill, near Turin, Italy.
-On board there were 31 people, including the players of the Torino football team, one of Italy’s most prominent clubs at that time, returning to Turin after a friendly match in Lisbon.
The plane, a double propeller monomotor, was on a route back to Italy from Portugal, but due to adverse climatic conditions, including dense and rain fog, the pilot failed to correctly identify the land.
As he approached Turin, the plane hit the superga hill, 672 meters above sea level, crashed violently. All the occupants of the plane, including 18 Torino players, the coach and members of the coaching staff, as well as some journalists and club staff, died on the spot.
The Superga accident is considered one of the greatest tragedies in the history of Italian football and left the Torino without one of the most talented teams in its history, known as the “Grande Torino”, which dominated Italian football in the 1940s.

Duván Zapata that is outside the courts since October 5, 2024 due to an injury in the cross ligaments of the knee, would return to the courts in September 2025, that is, for the beginning of the 2025-2026 season.
