Paris, May 6 (EFE) .- France on Tuesday accused Russia of being behind a broad campaign of misinformation through social networks against Ukraine and its allied countries, including France itself.
Since 2023, this system of attacks through the Storm 1516 “has been used 77 times against France, Ukraine and the rest of the western countries,” said the French Foreign Ministry in a statement.
The Storm 1516 system is organized around “a complex network of individuals and organizations” that act on Russian soil, some of them “especially close to the Russian government, which suggests a narrow link with the propaganda machine deployed by Russia,” adds the statement.
He adds that social networks affected by these operations “have been informed and must assume their responsibility in the fight against these foreign digital interference.”
This French complaint comes just one week after the French Foreign Minister Jean Noël Barrot denounced a Russian campaign of mass cyberators for years against France, with multiple public and private objectives.
“The Russian Military Intelligence Service (Gru) has been deploying a cyber -founded modus operandi called APT28 for several years. It has been directed against a dozen French entities since 2021,” Barrot said.
This complaint was accompanied by a video in which several episodes of what is called a “silent war undertaken by Russia against France” were detailed. EFE
