Currently, red blood cell reserves have been reduced to only 459 units available, although more than 1,000 would be necessary to guarantee the normal functioning of hospital activity in the archipelago, this entity has reported in a statement.

According to BSTIB, in recent days donations have decreased dramatically, which has forced limiting the shipments of blood components to hospital centers, an “exceptional” measure that is only adopted in critical situations.

“There is a real risk of running out of sufficient components to meet the hospital demand,” the entity has alerted, which recalls that anyone between 18 and 65 years, with health, can donate blood, without knowing their blood .

Donations can be made requesting a previous appointment on the Donasang.org website or calling 971 764 433. The donation points available through the published on the same page can also be consulted.

A single donation allows to obtain three components (plasma, red blood cells and platelets), which can benefit three different patients. Donating blood is a fast, safe and essential to save lives, underlines the BSTIB.
