News for the coffee sector in Colombia are not very encouraging, one of the most productive nationwide and competitive in the international arena. The general Manager of the national Federation of Coffee Growers (FNC), German Bahamón Jaramillo, issued an alert for the climate situation and recent performance of the country’s coffee sector.
The union leader was expressed through the social network X, where he explained that the recent rainy phenomenon generated a significant anomaly in the precipitation patterns, which recorded excesses greater than 90% compared to historical averages in most of the national coffee territory.

As he said, the climatic alteration entails two main impacts on coffee:
- Hindered the maturation of the fruit corresponding to the first semester harvest.
- Prevented the necessary vegetative processes to induce an adequate flower that gives rise to the harvest of the second semester of the yearaffectation that will be evidenced between October and December 2025.

As a direct consequence, he said that “the main harvest of the first semester, which historically begins strongly in April, has slowed down.” Also, that “The volume produced in April 2025 fell 5% compared to the same month of the previous year.”
Similarly, Bahamón Jaramillo noted that, despite the climatic situation, the aggregate performance of the coffee year is remarkable. This, because Between October 2024 and April 2025, production reached 9.3 million bags, which represents a growth of 31%. In addition, in the last 12 mobile months the production reached 14.9 million bags, a figure that was not registered since 1992.
In this regard, he noted that the value of the harvest in that same period is estimated at $ 21 billion pesos, as a combined result of the increase in volume and price.
-While in foreign trade, he indicated that Colombian coffee exports grew 16% in the run of the year. And in the last 12 months, 12.9 million bags were exported to more than 100 countries, which reached a total value of USD4,644 milliona historical figure for the country.

On the other hand, coffee imports from other origins and qualities to Colombia registered a 57%decrease, with a volume of 583 thousand bags in the same period.
“Faced with this scenario, We call on the national government to preserve and strengthen commercial diplomacy with the United States and with all strategic markets ”, The General Manager of the National Federation of Coffee Growers insisted. He recalled that, over 98 years, the coffee guild worked to diversify export destinations; However, the United States has been, is and will be, the most important market for the more than 550,000 families living in coffee in Colombia.
Therefore, Germán Bahamón Jaramillo said that any incident in diplomatic or commercial management with this country can translate into serious consequences for the well -being of Colombian coffee growers.
According to the National Federation of Coffee Growers, the situation occurs at a time when Colombia significantly increased coffee exports.

During the first quarter of 2025 the following was recorded:
- Colombia exported 3.59 million bags of 60 kilograms of coffee, registering a 20.1% growth compared to the same period of 2024. Colombia in this way sends a message of reliability as the origin of quality Arabica coffee, with the best behavior in the first quarter of the last five years.
- Soluble and lyophilized coffee grew by 30.2%, promoting the category of industrialized.
- The estimated exports value reached USD1,315 million, an increase of 64.5% compared to the first quarter of 2024, explained in part for better prices and a greater volume.
- The National Federation of Coffee Growers as administrator of the National Coffee Fund (FONC), led the ranking with 706,000 exported bags. The total exported by the main ten exporters added 2.77 million bags, a growth of 23.5% compared to the first quarter of 2024.
- The United States was consolidated as the main destination with 1.44 million bags, a 30.7%growth.
- Germany (76.3%), Canada (19.6%) and Belgium (15.4%) also showed significant increases.
- Buenaventura concentrated 61% of the exported volume, with an increase of 20.2%. Cartagena and Santa Marta also grew and contributed 32% and 7%, respectively.
“The performance of the first quarter of 2025 shows a solid reactivation of Colombian coffee exports. This result reinforces the international competitiveness of Colombian coffee, even in a context of logistics and geopolitical challenges,” concluded the general manager of the FNC, Germán Bahamón Jaramillo.
