Minister Jorge Montero provided scope about the reservation potential in lot 58 and the Madre de Dios basin.
From Arequipa, the Minister of Energy and Mines, Jorge Montero Cornejo, ratified the will of the government to advance in the implementation of natural gas projects for the regions of the South Macro, including infrastructure in transport by ducts, fractionation, liquefaction, re-hagasification and electricity generation.
Within the II Macro Meeting South Region «Massification of Gas», held at the headquarters of the Arequipa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Montero indicated that the government’s goal is to leave the projects aimed and advanced, since they transcend an administration and require continuous work due to the positive impact that will generate millions of citizens in the south of Peru.
“We must continue working together because political times run, so we will leave these projects aimed, without reverse, and whoever comes will have to respect the decisions and commitments we now take,” he said.
He reiterated that the agreement signed between the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) and Proinversion will promote the evaluation and development of these projects in less time and with greater predictability.
Likewise, the aforementioned agreement contemplates the technical-financial evaluation of natural gas transport by ducts in the departments of Cusco, Apurímac, Puno, Arequipa, Moquegua and Tacna.
He argued that these projects can be carried out through mechanism as taxes, as well as co -financed state initiatives, with the certainty that the implementation of these projects will contribute to transforming the economy of the South Macro and the best quality of life of thousands of families.
Regarding the adhes that are negotiated with the transport companies and distributors of natural gas, he said that the Peruvian State will guarantee the interests of the regions and the population, to achieve a fair balance between the desires of private investment and the rights of the peoples.
“We are not going to allow superganances … We are negotiating with companies to have reasonable addenda that attend interest, above all, of Peru and the regions that will benefit from the massification of natural gas,” he said.
Montero also highlighted the potential of the Madre de Dios basin for the exploration of new natural gas reserves, with prospective resources estimated at more than 20 cubic feet trillions of said energy and the possibility of increasing the supply horizon for Peru in 30 years plus.
Additionally, he stressed that, under its management, the investment project was unlocated to exploit natural gas in lot 58, in charge of the CNPC company, which will be able to initiate operations in 2026 and increase current reserves by 40%, strengthening the massification of natural gas in the southern macro.
«We have just returned from Saudi Arabia, where they have expressed their interest in participating in Perumin in September of this year. They will send a delegation of investors in mining and probably also in gas, oil and green hydrogen. The news is good and this is a leading country in hydrocarbons that seeks to diversify its investments in the mining sector, ”he added.
