42 % of Catholics in the US wants the next Pope to continue the legacy of Francisco

The majority of American Catholics approves the direction in which Pope Francis directed the Catholic Church and 42 % would like his legacy to be preserved by the next pontiff chosen in the that began this Wednesday in Rome.

76 % see the pontificate of Jorge Bergoglio (2013-2025), known for their reforming within the millenary institution, according to a of the CBS and the Yougov pollster.

37 % would like the next pontiff to be more conservative and 21 % that follow a more progressive current, the survey indicates.

The work of the Latin American Pope also contributed to the popularity of the Catholic Church in the United States, where 55 % consider that it remains aware of the needs of its parishioners, compared to 39 % who responded the same in 2013, before Francisco’s papacy.

The young people are the ones who tend to sympathize the most with the teachings of the late Pontiff, while two thirds of what was consulted claim that their papacy made them feel more connected to the Church.

The survey showed that 31 % would like the new occupant of San Pedro’s throne to be American, while 25 % prefer a Holy European and 12 % expect it to be a Latin American.

63 % of the Catholics asked wants the Pope to be aware of events and pronounce themselves on them, compared to 37 % who prefer not to get involved.
