The first vote, at the end of the first day of the conclave, took more than three hours and threw a black smoking. This Thursday, the Cardinals continue with their mission.
What you should know
- In the election of Pontiff 267 of History, who will happen to Pope Francis, 18 cardinals participate rather than in the last conclave, just over 12 years ago, when the number of voters was only 115.
- Although the number of summoned to the conclave was 135, two of them cannot vote because they exceed 80 years: the dean of the Cardenalicio College, cardinal Giovanni Battista Re and the Vice Dean, the Argentine cardinal Leonardo Sandri.
- Given the impossibility of Giovanni Battista Re could participate, the Italian Cardinal, Pietro Parolin, 70, was called to add a brief prayer in Latin at the beginning of the first day of the conclave. Parolin, the most important of Cardinals-Obispos due to their title as Secretary of State, is mentioned as who heads the Tarna de Papables.
- As of this Thursday, four daily voting rounds will be held, two in the morning and two in the afternoon, until it is defined who will be the next Pope. After each vote, the smoke that will leave the fireplace will determine what result they arrived.
