At the Beauval Zoo in Loir-et-Cher, golden monkeys arrived in April from Shanghai, China, an extremely rare species. The public was able to discover them for the first time on Wednesday May 7.
The first visitors are enthusiastic Wednesday May 7 at the Beauval Zoo (Loir-et-Cher) because they were looking forward to this moment: discover the golden monkeys in a space specially fitted out for them. They are recognizable with their long red coat and their slightly bluish face. Three specimens integrated the zoo: a male and two females. Their facial expressions are almost human and their attitudes are very attentive to each other.
In China, golden monkeys are considered a national treasure. The species is endangered. They were loaned by China as part of a preservation program. The specimens arrived by plane on April 3 with an escort worthy of a head of state. “They acclimatized super quickly when we see the course they made. The acclimatization was done in three days, everything was fine”assured Cyrielle Lambert of the Beauval Zoo.
