La Paz, Baja California Sur.- To prevent fires and guarantee greater security in the palm trees of Todos Santos, the City Council of La Paz reached agreements with property owners to open access, establish surveillance and allow the maintenance of the area. Among the planned actions, the authorization of firewall lines to attend possible accidents is contemplated.
Mayor Milena Quiroga Romero reported that more than 90% of the owners have already authorized access to their land, which will allow the municipal government to perform preventive work and facilitate the entry of help bodies.
“There are agreements to give us pedestrian crossings and allow motorcycles and four -time. We need to be able to enter to avoid vandalism and fires that every summer concern us,” he said.
-These agreements were derived after a fire occurred two years ago, which evidenced the lack of access due to the lotification carried out in the area between 2010 and 2012, without considering public or emergency channels.
Quiroga Romero added that, unlike the previous one, the new Urban Development Plan recognizes the Palmares as a natural area, and even delimits a section as a coastal boardwalk as far as the palmar reaches the sea.
“Little by little we have been respecting the spaces that nature gives us. We have to protect them in what is in our hands,” he concluded.
