But we talk about a small great story whose importance and context throughout the history of the twentieth century in the Argentine country is invaluable. One of those great works that is studied in schools, except when a dictatorship is centered or an ultraconservative government like Macri is removed. One whose author, Héctor Germán Oesterheld, is one of the disappeared from that dictatorship. Disappeared, in fact, when I was writing a sequel, The Eternaluta 2of which many doubt their true authorship, at least in terms of their second half.
Let’s take that into account to talk about what concerns us now. And after years, decades, of suspense, about the arrival of history to an audiovisual medium, The Eternaluta It is already a series of Netflix. He has done it by paying enough tolls, but also with benefits to applaud. Netflix has decided to place history in the present, and not in 1963 as the original. He has also decided to do without the methanarrative elements. It is no longer the spectrum of the protagonist who tells the story to the author himself (then we talk more about this). In addition, with the commitment to Ricardo Darín as the protagonist, the series has folded the age of its protagonist, and therefore made up the children of the history, making them young adults.
Also, of course, the series has been influenced by the amount of reissues, reissues and rewriting of the original. The result is a series that, although it meets the basic principles of the original story, is quite narrative from the cartoon published between 1957 and 1959. The author, Oesterheld, was also a character in history. Juan appeared at his house and told him all the events. The important thing is that what was narrated by Juan stood in 1963, while the story was just published in 59. The grace of everything was that Juan, in his fight, had managed to warn the past of what was going to happen in four years, and the author published Juan’s story as a warning of what would happen four years later for Argentina and the world to prepare.
Of course, the Netflix series can still put Ricardo Darín in a “time machine” as an end to the story of his character, but of course the detour is capitalized in these first measures. Perhaps Netflix was afraid of putting Oesterheld due to the respect he is professed for having been “disappeared” by the dictatorship with his wife and four children. However, it is his grandson Martín, who was only 4 years old at the time they ended his family, the one behind as a consultant and main screenwriter of the series. That is, everything can happen, including that the appearance of Oesterheld as a possible final wink is saved. What we want to make clear is that Netflix has diverted, a lot, but that it can still be rejoined with the original story at the key points.

Of course, season 1 has been only the beginning. However, we must take into account that Ricardo Darín is an busy man, and that a series of these characteristics takes a long time to shoot and costs too many millions so as not to take them into account. For now, the series has to be a success to win a season 2 with which, if you want, it could run until its end.
