Our Venezuela continues to face an electrical crisis, with continuous rations and cuts. The electricity generation is 80% below its capacity, which affects millions of people in this land of grace. The government justifies the situation by attributing it to the drought of reservoirs and climate change. Some blame the energy evils to the past and present errors of the government in more than two decades. I remember an anecdote of businessman Oscar Machado Zuloaga. During the first government of Dr. Rafael Caldera there were attempts to nationalize his company. At that time, a journalist approached Machado Zuloaga and asked: “What will you do if the government ends up nationalizing the company?” His answer was overwhelming: “I would immediately mount a candle factory!”

This response suggests that electrical services should be in private hands and not a group of people who come to power with intentions far from efficiency in the provision of public services, therefore, without the minimum intention of offering solutions to the electrical crisis. Chaos reached its high point on March 7, 2019, when Venezuela was paralyzed due to failures in the electricity service in several states of the country. Nobody gave convincing arguments and feedbacks about this, only murmurings were heard, which was a “sabotage” against the main electricity generation dam in the country, Guri. In order not to make the longest story, they blamed the United States for the mass blackout in Venezuela. Maduro said it, in military acts within the framework of the celebrations for the anniversary of the birth of Simón Bolívar. That the mass blackout was due to an “electromagnetic” attack. The electrical crisis remained and, for now, the Government of Nicolás Maduro launched another electrical ration plan, which is applied since Monday, March 24, 2025 and for six weeks, which would mainly affect the organizations of the public administration, when it affects us all by the quasi -paralysis of the public administration. This is something surreal in the so -called richest country in the American continent, but more paradoxical is that it has replicas beyond the seas. This week the electric power crisis touched the door to the European continent, over there in Spain, Portugal and areas of southern France were distressed, suffered a mass blackout late on Monday, April 28. The electric interruption at that time forced the total suspension of rail traffic and significantly impacted the operation of air traffic. Infrastructure such as hospitals also suffered the mass cut and were forced to activate emergency energy supply systems, as their own electric generators. People walked disoriented, desperate, in the midst of vehicles in traffic jams in the adjacencies of the Plaza de Cibeles, in Madrid, Spain, as could be seen on social networks
