The Public Space NGO registered 10 violations of of expression in Venezuela April, the most serious of them the arrest of Nakary Ramos Mena and that of her Gianni González.

Public Space mentioned that the National Telecommunications Commission (CONATEL) imposed economic measures against Internet operating companies in the country, “an indirect mechanism that affects the right to freedom of expression and adds to the effects of complex humanitarian emergency in Venezuela,” said the NGO.

SELL IACHO warns about deterioration in Venezuela

This same week the Rapporteur for Freedom of Expression of the Inter -American Commission on Rights (IACHR) warned about the deterioration of freedom of expression in Venezuela.

In a release they went to the international community to warn “about the serious and progressive deterioration of the media ecosystem in Venezuela, as well as the growing climate of fear and self -censorship between journalists and citizenship that seeks to exercise their right to freedom of expression”

While requested from the Venezuelan authorities “to respect and guarantee the rights to freedom of expression and press, in accordance with international standards in human rights.”
