The Dimayor Disciplinary Committee issued this Friday the bulletin in which the sanction that Deportivo Independiente Medellín must pay was recorded, after the incidents that occurred near the end of the classic that they tied 2-2 against Nacional, on April 21.

Pablo Ceppellini, an Atlético Nacional player, had a knife thrown at him from the north stand of the Atanasio Girardot stadium, where the DIM fans were stationed. After a couple of minutes in which he was treated by the green club’s doctors, the game resumed.

The fact was recorded in the report presented by the match referee, Wílmar Roldán, and also in the one sent by the field commissioner.

“At minute 90+1 in the recovery of a corner kick, they threw a blunt object (knife) from the corner between the North and East stands. The object hit player #10 of Atlético Nacional Pablo Cepellini who, after receiving medical attention for 2 minutes, was able to continue,” says Roldán’s report.

In its defense, the DIM requested that the case be archived. “We request the Honorable Disciplinary Committee to file the case and not sanction the SA People’s Team, due to its tireless commitment to violence and the maximum avoidance of attacks in football,” he argued.

This was the Committee’s punishment to Medellín

After listening to the arguments, the Committee decided to sanction Medellín with a partial suspension from the square and a fine.

“Sanction the El Equipo del Pueblo SA Club, with two (2) partial suspension dates from the plaza (north lower stand, sector 14) and a fine of thirteen million pesos ($13,000,000), for incurring the infraction described in paragraphs 1, 4, 5 and 6 of article 84 of the CDU of the FCF; in the match played for the 18th date of the BetPlay DIMAYOR League – I 2024 between Club El Equipo del Pueblo SA and Club Atlético Nacional SA”, says the resolution.

The Committee granted Medellín the resources for reconsideration and appeal. However, the team will pay the penalty in the next two games in which it plays at home.

If he manages to qualify for the semi-final home runs, he will serve that sanction in that instance. Otherwise, it will be in the second half of 2024.
