A serious incident occurred this Thursday, after the elimination of Deportes Quindío in the Colombia Cup at the hands of Envigado, in the second phase of the tournament.

The Armenian team, which plays in the second division, lost 2-3 at the Centenario stadium this Thursday and could not reverse the defeat by the same score in the first leg, at the Polideportivo Sur de Envigado.

After the game, a Quindío fan verbally threatened to kill the player Jairo Roy Castillo. Later, that same fan, in the company of other people, violently broke into the residential complex where the footballer lives and attacked his girlfriend.

The woman had to be transferred to a clinic in Armenia to evaluate the injuries received from the attackers. The club, in a statement issued on its social networks, fully identified one of the aggressors: it is Hellman David Camargo.

“Our club repudiates these acts of violence and regrets that the actions of a few fans alter and detract from the effort and unconditional support that our fans give us in each match,” the document says.

Dimayor also issued a statement on its website in which it rejected the aggression suffered by Castillo and his family.

“The institution calls for healthy coexistence in football, inviting all fans to enjoy Colombian Professional Football in peace,” says Dimayor, as spokesperson for the #6 affiliated clubs.

“The Administration stands in solidarity with the player’s family and invites the corresponding authorities to carry out the relevant investigations to guarantee the well-being and safety of those affected,” he adds.

Castillo, 33 years old, is one of the players with the most appearances in the history of Deportes Quindío. He debuted on February 15, 2009 against Millonarios in Bogotá. In the first division he played 59 games with the club’s shirt and scored six goals.

During Quindío’s time in B, Castillo played 210 games and scored 23 goals, while in the Colombia Cup he appeared in 47 games and scored 11 goals. He also played for Universitario de Popayán, Atlético Bucaramanga, Real Cartagena and Deportivo Pereira.
