René Higuita fired Santiago Rojas, who will not continue in Nacional

The Paraguayan Santiago Rojas will not continue Atlético Nacional and he was already fired by René Higuita on social networks.

The goalkeeper arrived at Verdolaga at the beginning of 2024 and barely capped in five games. He had a very bad presentation in the previous phase of CONMEBOL Libertadores against Nacional of Paraguay and, after those games, he was not taken into account again.

Rojas debuted on February 4 of this year against Águilas Doradas and kept a clean sheet. He also left his goal without winning on February 8, against Patriotas. On the 11th, on date 6 of the Apertura, Rojas started against Millonarios and he was expelled after having a confrontation with Álvaro Montero, an action that left him suspended for three games.

That month of February, Rojas was the starting goalkeeper against Nacional of Paraguay in both games. In the first leg, Nacional lost 1-0 and during the second leg, played at the Atanasio, Verdolaga received a 3-0 win, with Rojas as the protagonist.

Rojas controlled poorly after a corner from El Nacional and the ball escaped, leaving it dead in the heart of the area and serving the Paraguayans the second goal.

That was his last performance at Atlético Nacional. ‘Chipi Chipi’ Castillo took over after this event and the goalkeeper, who had a contract until the end of the year, will leave in this next market.

René Higuita dedicated a few words to Rojas and thanked him for his professionalism. “Santiago Rojas, excellent professional, excellent goalkeeper, a great human being, thank you very much. Success!”published in a story of instagram.
