The Argentinian Sebastian Baez (No. 19 in the ATP ranking) was eliminated in the third round of the Madrid Masters 1000 after losing to the American Taylor Fritz (No. 13) by 2-6 and 3-6.

It was a match dominated from start to finish by Fritz, without suffering complications in the hour that the match lasted: 11 aces, 20 winners, three unforced errors and no chance of a break against him for an impeccable performance by the American.

The Argentine is a specialist on the surface, having won five of his six ATP titles on it. However, he did not start the European tour in the best way. He lost in the debuts in Monte-Carlo and Barcelona, while he only managed to win one match in Madrid.

Regarding the direct history between Báez and Fritz, the latter won all five matches between the two (Cincinnati 2022; Indian Wells and Paris 2023; Indian Wells and Madrid 2024). The Argentine was never able to get more than five games out of him in each of the matches.

Fritz will have a tough test in search of the quarterfinals in Madrid as he will face the Pole Hubert Hurkacz (No. 9), who has just comfortably beaten the German Daniel Altmaier 6-4 and 7-6 (2).
