Although Egan Bernal’s main goal for 2024 was the Vuelta a España, his good performances and results in these first months of the course have changed that. The Colombian has a guaranteed place in the Tour de France and would make the French round his main challenge.

Egan Bernal, Ineos Grenadiers

This was confirmed by Gazzetta dello Sport, justifying the change in the Colombian’s growth throughout the campaign, in which he even went so far as to affirm that he has better power numbers than before his accident.

Bernal’s original idea was to finish getting the pedal stroke in the first half of the year and then try his luck in the big one he’s missing. His legs did the rest and now he has a place in the selection for the Grande Boucle.

It will be interesting to see how they distribute stripes and responsibilities at INEOS, since they also have Tom Pidcock and Carlos Rodríguez. Most likely they will protect the three until the route puts them each in their place.

The reality is that the trio’s recent past has Rodríguez as the best card, since he was 5th in the last edition of the Tour and today he won the Tour de Romandie. But the return of Bernal’s good feelings, added to his record of achievements, will make the British team take care of him.

Even so, at some point there was an idea to take him again to the Grande Boucle as a gregarious (as in 2023) so that he could later repeat in Spain. If the general plans fail, he will still have that path ahead of him.

In another order of things, Pidcock has been working for months on his transformation as a Tour man and is a protégé of the INEOS directors, in addition to being British. As soon as he teaches something and his classmates don’t, he will become the English standard.
