ST. LOUIS — Brandon Nimmo broke a tie in the seventh with a home run that lifted the New York Mets to a 4-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday night.

Sean Manaea (2-1) worked six effective innings and Edwin Díaz bounced back after blowing a save chance Sunday and the Mets bounced back from a weekend sweep in Tampa Bay.

Panamanian Iván Herrera hit a two-run double for the Cardinals, who have lost five of the last six.

Díaz went 1-2-3 in the ninth for his fifth save in six opportunities. The star closer allowed a home run by Mexican-Cuban Randy Arozarena with a full count on Sunday, which tied the game and the Rays went on to win 7-6 in 10 innings.

Prior to that, Díaz had converted 26 straight save opportunities, dating back to 2022, which was the longest streak in the majors.

Manaea allowed three runs and six hits in his first career start against the Cardinals. He became the first Mets starter to record a win since Luis Severino defeated Pittsburgh 9-1 on April 17.
