Every morning, as a sacred ritual, Flaco went to the classic candy store in Saint Moritz, located in the center of Buenos Aires. It is a place that opened its doors in 1859 and has an atmosphere steeped in tradition, where the aroma of freshly brewed coffee mixes with the laughter and conversations of the regulars.

In dialogue with TN, Maxi Monkin charge of the establishment, told details of what those mornings were like with the world champion coach in 1978, who died this Sunday at the age of 85.

Carmelo, the newspaperman: your eternal coffee companion

Flaco’s routine was simple: he arrived between 9 in the morning and left at 11. “He came every morning and had his short Italian coffee“Maxi told TN. His companion was Carmelo, the neighborhood newspaper owner, and together they occupied table number 10, a reserved corner that had become his personal refuge.

The legend of Flaco lives: the tribute that the confectionery will pay to César Luis Menotti

The much-feared day arrived and Menotti’s absence left a palpable void in the air. But, instead of sadness overtaking the place, the confectionery decided to pay tribute to him as he deserved.

On this day we put the ball on display, the box and the well in tribute to him.”said the person in charge of the establishment.

However, the tribute went further and Maxi detailed with emotion: “He has a corner that we will surely expand more. And, regarding the table, we are going to dedicate a space where there was a long, old table”. Thus, in the midst of pain over the departure of Flaco, the confectionery found a way to celebrate his life and legacy.
