Early this Tuesday morning, The leadership of Cobreloa reached an agreement with Emiliano Astorga to end the link that united the coach with the orange squad. After complicated weeks in every sense, in Calama they will now have to look for a new coach.

The strategist, who had a contract valid until 2025, added 13 points in the first eleven days, which forced the orange leadership to seek an agreement to cut the link early. All this, in the midst of a judicial scandal that keeps preventive detention of two players from the squad for an alleged gang rape.

The agreement between Astorga and the Cobreloa leadership

The factor that distanced the Loínos from Astorga to finalize their process in Calama had to do with the search for compensation for him and his coaching staff due to the more than 18 months left on his contract at the Desert Foxes.

According to information provided by the party media Socios del Desierto, the Loina leadership would have accepted an important compensation in favor of the coach and his collaboratorswho thus agreed to sign the separation from the club.

Astorga’s footprint in Calama

Emiliano Astorga leaves Cobreloa after fulfilling the club’s great objective in recent years: returning to the First Division. The San Antonio native arrived in Calama in 2022 and in his first year he dramatically lost promotion, first with Magallanes, and then in the Liguilla against Deportes Copiapó.

The following season he was the protagonist again and this time he achieved his goal, returning to the loínos to the honor category after 8 years playing in the Primera B.

This year the team started well and added some consecutive wins. However, a streak of defeats ended his time in Calama. In any case, these last few months also left positive things, such as, an important victory against Colo Colo at the Monumental Stadium.

Now, the Cobreloa leadership is looking for a coach and surely in the next few hours the first candidates will emerge to take command of the complicated Desert Foxes.
