KANSAS CITY, Missouri — Willy Adames hit a three-run homer with two outs in the ninth inning, and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Kansas City Royals 6-5 on Tuesday.

James McArthur (1-2) had retired his first two opponents in the ninth inning when Venezuelan William Contreras launched the comeback with a full-count double.

Gary Sánchez followed with a walk before Adames found an 83 mph curveball and hit the ball into the left field bullpen.

Jared Koenig (3-1) took the victory. He forced Hunter Renfroe to hit a harmless grounder that ended the seventh inning.

Then, he survived an eighth blank episode. Trevor Megill sailed calmly through the ninth inning to record his third save in as many opportunities.

Rhys Hoskins and Joey Ortiz hit back-to-back homers off starter Seth Lugo in the second inning, but that was all the Brewers had until the ninth.

For the Brewers, Venezuelans Andruw Monasterio 2-1 with an RBI, Contreras 5-2 with one run scored, Jackson Chourio 3-1. The Dominicans Sánchez 1-0 with one run scored, Adames 4-1 with one run scored and three RBIs.

For the Royals, the Venezuelans Maikel García 5-1, Salvador Pérez 4-1 with an RBI. The Puerto Ricans MJ Meléndez 4-1 with one scored, Nelson Velázquez 4-1.
