Franco Colapinto was able to correct the irregular performances he had had in the four classifications at the beginning of the season in Formula 2 and gave a sample of his progress in the qualy of the Monaco Grand Prix: he will start 5th Sunday’s Feature Race (from 4:40 a.m.) and 6th on the inverted grid for the Sprint this Saturday (from 9.15).

It must be kept in mind that they classified into two lots of 11 vehicles and Franco came out in the first. Over there was placed third (0.372 from the top of the group) behind the Dutchman Richard Verschoor (1:21:283) from Trident and the French Isaac Hadjar from Campos Racing.

The work was positive if you take into account that there were better times there than other large projects such as the Italian one. Andrea Kimi Antonelli from Prema Racing, the Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto from Invicta Racing or the British Zak O’Sullivan of ART Grand Prix, with whom he is a colleague at the Williams Driver Academy.

The second series had to be stopped shortly after beginning because the Mexican Rafael Villagomez suffered an impact with his vehicle that prompted him to leave the test and forced the red flag to fly. However, that did not stop the Frenchman from Victor Martins from ART Grand Prix and Estonian Paul Aron of Hitech Pulse-Eight improve Colapinto’s brands, to relegate it to fifth place overall.

After the stoppage that Formula 2 had after the first three dates, Colapinto confirmed that it is on an upward curve after shining in Imola. He had qualified 15th and twice 13th in the first three races of the year (Bahrain, Jeddah and Melbourne), which pushed him to finish 4th in the Australian Sprint, 6th in the Bahrain Feature, 11th in the Saudi Arabia Sprint and 18th in the Sakhir Sprint. He then had a DNF in the Feature in Saudi Arabia and was also ruled out in Australia.

The scenario changed last weekend in Italy: he placed 9th in qualifying and finished winning the Sprint race, the first win in F2. Furthermore, it arrived in fifth place in Sunday’s competition. His metrics continued to grow on the legendary Monaco circuit, where he already posted the best performance in a classification of the season.

Beyond the two races in Monaco this weekend, the F2 calendar shows that there are still another 18 competitions divided into the next 9 Grands Prix: Barcelona (June 21 to 23), Spielbger (June 28 to 30), Silverstone (July 5 to 7), Budapest (July 19 to 21), Spa-Francorchamps (July 26 to 28), monza (August 31 to September 1), Baku (September 13 to 15), Lusail (November 30 to December 1) and Yas Island (December 6 to 8).
