The Colombian Daniel Martínez demonstrated this Saturday that he is the best among the mortals who competed in the 2024 Giro d’Italia, whose virtual champion is the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar, who won stage 20, in the high mountains, with a wide advantage.
Pogacar fulfilled the predictions and ratified his third title in a Grand Tour. He previously won two Tours de France (2020 and 2021). It was a new chapter in the routine of the extraordinary. He continues to show that he is at another level. In this way, the Slovenian achieved his sixth stage victory in this edition of the Corsa Rosa.
Martínez, from Cundinamarca, had a great performance, defending second place in the general classification with great skill. The Bora-Hansgrohe rider, member of a chasing group made up of four riders, finished the fraction in third position.
Éiner Rubio from Boyacá also played a great role on this day, arriving alongside Martínez and managing to climb to seventh place in the general classification. There will be two Colombians in the Top 10 of the Giro d’Italia 2024.
The twentieth stage, between Alpago and Bassano del Grappa, 184 kilometers long, featured a double first-category climb. The final day, which will end in Rome, will be flat and not many changes are expected in the accumulated table.
