The competition that will now be held every four years in the summer (unlike the previous format that was held in December of each year) will be based in the United States for this new era.
The unknowns have practically disappeared regarding the clubs that will compete in the World Cup and only those three places are pending, although all of them will be resolved at the end of 2024, or at least that could be inferred.
The three teams that remain to complete the 32 in the Club World Cup are American, specifically 1 of Concacaf and 2 of the Conmebol.
The two that remain from Conmebol will be, in the first instance, the team that is champion of the Copa Libertadores 2024, which is ongoing and has just passed its Group Phase. As long as they are not Palmeiras, Flamengo and Fluminenseall from Brazil.
The other will be removed from the Conmebol ranking among the non-champion teams of the Copa Libertadores. There could even be two teams this way if Palmeiras, Flamengo or Fluminense win this year’s Copa Libertadores again.
And the last ticket will come from the host country – the United States, which has the right to invite a team. Logic would indicate that this team would be the champion of the 2024 MLS season, currently underway.
The Copa Libertadores Final is scheduled for November 30. The 2024 MLS season is projected to end on December 7.
