Shortstop Corey Seager could be out of the Texas Rangers lineup for several games due to left hamstring tightness

ARLINGTON, Texas — The short field of the Texas Rangers, Corey Seagerdid not appear in the lineup for Friday’s game, and the two-time World Series MVP could miss several games due to a left hamstring tightness.

Seager exited Wednesday’s game after tweaking his hamstring on an RBI single. Manager Bruce Bochy said the shortstop did take the field before the series opener against the San Francisco Giants.

“He did some light jogging, but he doesn’t look ready yet,” Bochy said. “It looks like it will be for a few days, three days.”

There are currently no plans to place Seager on the disabled list.

“We believe it will be ready before the 10 days are up,” Bochy said.

Seager extended his on-base streak to a career-high 28 games with a hit in the second inning of the Rangers’ 9-1 win over the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night. He later said that he felt a pang. Seager missed 31 games early last season due to a strained left hamstring.

Josh Smith, who has been the starting third baseman since Josh Jung broke his right wrist less than a week into the season, was the starting shortstop against the Giants. He batted second, the usual spot for Seager who hits for a .271 offensive average with 13 homers and 30 RBIs in 57 games.

Although Seager was not placed on the disabled list, Bochy said the Rangers recalled infielder Davis Wendzel from Triple-A Round Rock. To make room on the active roster, outfielder Derek Hill was placed on the assignment list.
