Edin Terzic’s time at Borussia Dortmund has come to an end sooner than expected. When everything indicated that the black and yellow coach would continue leading the club after having led it to a Champions League final in which it ended up being defeated by Real Madrid, The Westphalian club issued a statement this Thursday in which it reported that Terzic, after being offered by the coach himself to the club’s board of directors, will not fulfill his contract (until 2025) at Signal Iduna Park. In this way, the coach who lifted the Pokal in 2021 closes his second stage at BVB.
Terzic was quoted as follows in the statement: “Although it hurts me brutally now, I want to inform you that today I will leave BVB. It has been a great honor to lead this great club to victory in the Pokal and, more recently, to a Champions League final. After our final at Wembley, I asked to talk to those responsible because, after ten years at BVB, five of them as a member of the coaching staff and two and a half as head coach, I believe that the new beginning that is coming must be accompanied by a new face in the technical area”. Terzic admitted that the decision was not easy: “Anyone who knows me knows that in recent weeks I have had two hearts beating in my chest during this decision-making process. But even after intense discussions, my feelings have not changed. I only wish Borussia Dortmund the best and I don’t say goodbye, but see you soon,” he concluded.
Those responsible only praised the coach. “Edin Terzic has done an excellent job at BVB. We are all very grateful to him. Edin and I will always remain friends,” were the words of CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke. Sports director Sebastian Kehl toñgoodbye: “Edin is a borusse to the core, a genuine person who has always been 100% committed to BVB. We have experienced many things together. It has been great fun working with Edin in achieving our goals. Our successes of recent years will always be associated with him and I am sure that our paths will cross again. Edin will follow his own path.”
According to Bild, former Madrid player Nuri Sahin, who joined Borussia’s coaching staff during the winter transfer window along with former German midfielder Sven Bender, could become Terzic’s successor on the black and yellow bench.
