When Red Bull announced the renewal of Sergio Pérez, it surprised everyone that instead of signing a contract extension for only one more season, as was usual until now, it was a new agreement for two more years, specifically until the end of 2026.

Of course, as Helmut Marko confirmed, although the contract supposedly ends in 2026, it has a series of clauses that make it the typical renewal of 1+1so there is no guarantee that the Mexican driver will continue with the Austrian team once the 2025 season ends.

However, in an attempt to find an explanation for Pérez’s two-year renewal, many quickly pointed to his teammate Max Verstappen, since he believes that the current three-time Dutch champion is very happy with Checo as a teammate team for two reasons: he meets the team’s objectives (for now) and does not put pressure on him on the court.

When last weekend, the current World Cup leader was invited to BBC Radio 5 Live in Montreal and they dropped that rumor on him, his response was very clear and He categorically denied that he had anything to do with Checo’s renewal for two more years with Red Bull..

“I think this decision has nothing to do with those assumptions. People always make up stories, but this has nothing to do with that. Right now I’m happy with everything, I have a contract until 2028 and my intention is to race for Red Bull until that contract ends regardless of what happens in that sense.

“I don’t even know what will happen after that (2028), because I’m not sure if I want to continue my career. But I try not to think about it either,” he explained.

When asked what he honestly thought about Checo’s renewal, Verstappen acknowledged that He was happy because it was something good for his teammate’s mental stability and because it maintained the good dynamics and harmony of the team. of energy drinks.

“I’m glad that Sergio has renewed his contract, now he knows what he’s going to do in the coming years and that will surely be good for him.”

“We have always worked very well together, there is a lot of consistency in the team and that is important,” concluded the only Formula 1 world player from the Netherlands.
