América de Cali would give a player to Atlético Bucaramanga

The joy for the first Colombian soccer star does not fade in Atlético Bucaramanga. The club is already preparing to reinforce the squad for the second half of the year and, among the possible new players, One name resonates strongly: Esneyder Mena, from América de Cali.

According to a recent report, Mena would be in negotiations with the ‘Leopard’ team to join their ranks in the next semester. The main reason for the player’s interest would be the lack of opportunities in América, where coach Polilla Da Silva, apparently, does not have him in mind for the next phase of the season.

Mena, looking for minutes and continuity, goes in Atlético Bucaramanga, under the direction of Rafael Dudamel, an opportunity to return to his level and be the protagonist. The team, in addition to being the current champion of the BetPlay League, has shown great performance under the command of the Venezuelan coach, attracting players looking for an ambitious sports project.

An American past and an uncertain present

Esneyder Mena arrived at América de Cali in 2022. In 2023 he played 33 games as a starter, but so far in 2024 he has only started 11 games, without reaching 1,000 minutes on the court. This situation has meant a season with little participation for the player, something he had not experienced since 2020 with Deportivo Pasto.

Mena in the first division

Mena debuted in the First Division in 2017 with Jaguares de Córdoba. At that time, he only played five games and 170 minutes on the court. His best season so far has been with América de Cali in 2023, where he played 44 games. To get there, he first had to go through Patriotas Boyacá in 2018, where he only started three of eight games.

Afterwards, he went to Mexico where he played with Correcaminos from 2018 to 2020. He had a relatively good season with that Mexican club, in his last performance with 20 games as a starter out of 21 and scored two goals. Additionally, that season was the first time he played more than 1,000 minutes on the court, with a total of 1,846.

He returned to Colombia to play with Deportivo Pasto where he was from 2020 to 2021. He played 42 games as a starter between those two years, did not score goals, but was a key part of the attack. His first two seasons with América de Cali were very good, but unfortunately his pace dropped and that is what is currently pushing him to leave the team and try to join Atlético Bucaramanga.
