LOS ANGELES — Taylor Ward drove in the go-ahead run with a single in the 10th inning, and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2 on Friday in what was Shohei’s first game. Ohtani against his previous team.
Ohtani hit a two-run homer with two outs in the fifth inning to give the Dodgers the lead. He went 2 for 2 with two walks, but was caught in an attempted steal, which ended the eighth inning.
The Dodgers had only three more hits.
Jo Adell started the 10th inning at second and advanced on a Nolan Schnanuel sacrifice. Closer Evan Phillips (0-1) took the mound and retired Luis Rengifo on a groundout before Ward singled to left field.
The Dodgers went scoreless in the bottom of the inning. Cavan Biggio started at second and anchored at third with a grounder in which Jason Heyward was retired. But the Dominican Carlos Estévez struck out the Puerto Rican Kiké Hernández and Gavin Lux to end the game, with which he achieved his 14th save.
Dominican Luis García (2-0) took the victory with two innings of relief.
For the Angels, Venezuelan Rengifo was 1-for-4 with one run scored.
