Who is “Jimmy” Lozano, Mexico’s technical director at the 2024 Copa América?

Jaime Arturo Lozano Espín was born on September 29, 1978 in Mexico City. He is the son of the actors Jaime Lozano Aguilar and Ana Bertha Espín, hence one of his nicknames “The Actor”. His father was an Olympic boxer in 1968.

Lozano debuted as a midfielder with the Pumas, from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), in 1998, a team with which he won the championship in the 2004 Clausura tournament, where, in the second leg of the semifinal against Cruz Azul, he used the iconic t-shirt with the phrase “Made in CU”, for which he is still remembered.

In that same year, Pumas won the 2004 Apertura and also beat Real Madrid at home for the Santiago Bernabéu Trophy, under the leadership of Hugo Sánchez.

During his long career he passed through the ranks of the Atlético de Celaya, Tigres de la Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, Cruz Azul and Monarcas de Morelia teams.

In addition, he played with the Mexican National Team in the 2004 and 2007 Americas Cups, the 2004 Athens Olympic Games and the 2005 Confederations Cup.

He played 34 games with “Tri” between 2000 and 2008, and scored 12 goals between 2004 and 2007, according to the specialized portal Transfermarkt.
