SAN DIEGO — Jurickson Profar hit a grand slam five innings after a bench-clearing altercation, and the San Diego Padres beat the Washington Nationals 9-7 on Tuesday.

Dominican Manny Machado also contributed a dramatic home run for the Padres, who won another tough duel against Washington.

Profar’s fourth grand slam, who reached two this season, came with one out in the sixth inning, off Derek Law, to spark the joy of the fans at Petco Park. After watching the ball land on the right field porch, Profar dropped the bat, patted his chest and gestured toward the dugout as he began his jog.

Profar, who at 31 is having the best season of his career with a $1 million contract, leads the National League outfielders’ voting for the All-Star Game. He has 11 homers this season.

With one out in the first inning, Venezuelan catcher Keibert Ruiz yelled something at Profar and put a hand on his shoulder just before his turn at bat.

Machado, who was in the waiting circle, also touched Ruiz, stepping between the two players. There were apparently no punches.

MacKenzie Gore then hit Profar with a pitch but was not sent off.

For the Nationals, Mexican Joey Meneses went 3-0 with an RBI. Puerto Rican Eddie Rosario 2-0. Colombian Harold Ramírez 2-1 with an RBI. The Venezuelans Ruiz 4-0, Ildemaro Vargas 1-0.

For the Padres, Venezuelan Luis Arráez was 1-for-5 with two runs scored. Dominican Manny Machado was 3-1 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Colombian Donovan Solano was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
