This Friday marked 10 years since Chile was eliminated by Brazil in the round of 16 of the 2014 World Cup. where La Roja had the opportunity to eliminate the canarinha, after a shot by Mauricio Pinilla hit the post.
Brazil would then eliminate Chile on penalties (3-2), but it was a moment that remained in the collective memory of the national football world, and Jorge Valdivia, who was on the bench for 120 minutes that day, remembered that day.
In the ADN Radio program Los Tenores, Valdivia confessed that they were affected after the elimination, because they felt that they deserved the classification.
“We were in shit… It was an unfair elimination, we believed it was unfair because of Mauro’s suit. We were talking about how we had the local team, a historic team, with players who were going through an incredible moment, and we had them…” Valdivia said.
The Magician also recalled his time with the national team in those years, praising the group that was there and the competitiveness of La Roja, which would later win two Copa América (2015 and 2016).
“That team really made you excited, it made you have a lot of hope, it made you want to go to the stadium, to train. “Not only because of the football aspect, but also because of the relationship we had. Personally, I feel very happy and proud to have been part of that group of monsters. Because they were players with a great winning, warrior mentality,” he commented.
“They weren’t afraid of anything, a lack of respect, a race-oriented attitude on the part of many of us, because we could play against Germany, France and England and we didn’t care. There was professional respect, but that was it. “I feel very proud to have belonged to such an important moment for the national team,” he added.
Finally, he was asked about the reasons why he did not play against Brazil on that day. “That is another of the pending issues I have with Don Sampa…but with a fernet in hand”replied The Wizard.
