Was it a good purchasing decision?

Two years ago my friend bought the Studio Display and the Mac Studio. He practically bought it when he left and, according to him, it has given him a lot of joy over the last few months. However, as the months have gone by, the situation has not changed, but it is true that he has discovered some things that have not completely convinced him.

In this article we are not going to dwell on the parameters of this monitor, features, etc., since many of you already know that it has a 5k panel, A13 chip and very premium features.

Obviously, like every Apple product, it has its fervent followers, but also detractors of this product. My friend is in the first group, but that does not mean he is incapable of saying a bad comment about the company. Quite the contrary.

What did you like most about the Studio Display?

Brightness and resolution are two of the most liked sections of Apple’s professional monitor. This is thanks to its Retina screen, that is, those screens that exceed a certain number of pixels and that facilitate the correct visualization of all the elements that make up the website.

This allows for quality colors and visualization of details in a millimetric way. In addition, it also gives you a very powerful glow, so you can work in bright environments. This brightness is not located in the center, but is present throughout the panel.

Regarding the issue of Hz, many users have criticized that it should have more than 60 Hz. However, my colleague has indicated on several occasions that he has not missed it at any time, since it is a Mac screen and not that of an iPhone and, therefore, it is not considered a key section.

The speakers seem very good to him, as they are the speakers that have worked the best and have been integrated into the unit. These are well located, well balanced and have a very good bass sound.

Studio Display failures

The webcam, in the words of my friend, “is real crap.” As you already know, changing from wide angle to ultra wide angle causes the camera to be 1080p and have the A13 Bionic to obtain better white balance and sharpness in the image. For a 1,700 euro monitor, it is quite bad. The only solution has been to use external cameras or use the iPhone as a Webcam.

There are some aspects that the interviewee considers that Apple did not end well or in which it did not do a good job. Specifically, adding four USB-C ports on the back is not the best option. It is true that it is a good idea because you can even charge a MacBook, but having a greater variety of ports would have been a great option. For example, you really miss an HDMI cable to connect your PS5 or Nintendo Switch. The display can only connect to Mac Studio or a Mac.

The base or support is without a doubt the worst thing about the Studio Display. Spending 1,700 euros on a base whose position cannot be modified to adapt it to our needs is simply a lack of respect for the consumer.
