The iPad Air 6 will be presented in just a week, but we already know many of its features in advance

We are already in full countdown of a new Apple event, which will be held next Tuesday, May 7 and that will serve to present new iPads. More specifically the iPad Pro 2024, from which we expect a lot, but also from the iPad Air 6 range. And from this, we also expect great things. Literally.

This range is considered mid-high range in Apple’s tablet catalog because it is getting closer and closer to the iPad Pro, although still far from them. This year there will also be new elements that make it an even better choice than those. And we know it because practically everything has already been leaked of the iPad Air 2024.

The biggest news: there will be two iPad Air

It was at the end of 2013 when we learned about the iPad Air range, long before even the iPad Pro range. During these years they have been updated more or less frequently, but always launching a single device. However, this year we will have two sizes: 10.9 and 12.9 inches. Yes, just like the iPad Pro.

Until now, anyone who wanted a large iPad had to go for an iPad Pro, which may have greatly upset their budget seeing how in recent generations its price has risen to close to 1,500 euros. This year there will be a cheaper option.

The design will continue to be very similar to what has already been seen in previous generations of the iPad Air in the 10.9-inch model, but also in the 12.9-inch model. Although it will share the size with the more expensive iPad Pro, for aesthetic purposes it will be the same as the small ‘Air’ by having a single camera on the back.

On the screen there will be IPS-LCD panels for both models. Maybe you read previously that the large model would have a Mini-LED panel. This was Apple’s intention, who do not rule it out for later. However, the high cost of production would have meant its cancellation for these iPads that will be released in May.

The power of the M2 in two new iPads

M2 Chip Feature Summary

The M2 chip is by no means new. In fact, it is not exclusive to Macs. The iPad Pro 2022 and even the already have it. However, It is still one of Apple’s most powerful processors. A processor with which they will replace the M1 of the iPad Air 5.

Of course, unless there is a surprise, it seems that we will continue to have a only 8 GB memory option and not 16 GB. The latter is reserved for storage capacities of 1 TB or more, something that does not seem to reach this generation of iPad Air. It is likely that the 64 and 256 GB offered by the current model will be discarded in favor of 128GB and 512GB optionsalthough it is not yet confirmed.

New accessories also for these iPad Air?

The Apple Pencil 3 will also be presented next Tuesday with new and long-awaited functions such as haptic vibrations, more gestures or magnetic and interchangeable tips. However, There are doubts about whether it will be compatible with the iPad Air 6since it aims to be something exclusive to the new iPad Pro, although it is not ruled out.

What does seem ruled out is that the new Magic Keyboard with trackpad, which will also be redesigned for this Tuesday, is compatible with these ‘Air’. Thus, they would be relegated to having accessory compatibility identical to that of previous generations.

The price, as always, is the big doubt (and the big fear)

769 euros is the starting price of the only iPad Air currently on sale, which is the fifth generation. While it is true that it will have an M2 chip and perhaps a greater base capacity, there are no apparent reasons for a price increase. Therefore, unless confirmed, it is likely that this will continue to be the case.

Although price increases are not ruled out, it is difficult to imagine that the large model is as expensive as the current 12.9-inch ‘Pro’

The unknown is in the largest model. While it is true that the hardware will be similar (but not identical) to that of the iPad Pro M2 that is still sold in those 12.9 inches, it seems crazy to imagine that the large iPad Air will be sold at the same price of 1,449 euros. Because, although the ‘Pro’ will rise, it does not seem like it will be enough to leave that 12.9-inch iPad Air with such a difference compared to the 10.9-inch one.

What does seem clear is that the large model will already be in four figures. It doesn’t seem like it will go down from 1,000 euros and, to take something positive, at least it won’t be as expensive as the ‘Pro’ and will break a significant entry barrier for anyone who wants a large iPad. In any case, we will have to wait until Tuesday to clear up doubts and do the math accurately, now with the official prices in hand.
